Pretty surprised and discouraged at the lack of availability for oral HIV testing in the CSRA. It makes no sense to have a much cheaper, less invasive form of HIV testing so hard to find.

I figure skated for five years and was around all kinds of guys while I was wearing tights and leggings short skirts and they weren’t distracted at all. They were focused enough to do lifts and throws and walk around on a sheet of ice wearing boots with blades of metal on them so…idk why you can’t wear leggings in school really.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that schools are a setting in which the female body is treated as a big scary seductive mystery of male consumption that you’re not allowed to get sneak peeks at until your 18, which creates a sterile environment where anything, even comfortable clothing, is treated as provocative merely for exposing the female form. but like I said idek, school sucks.

This is the rapist who attacked my friend Jess (ladyaches). Due to her being stalked and harassed from a supposed ex-friend of hers, he has been given access to her blog, her personal story of what happened (though the post has since been removed), and is now threatening her on Facebook for daring to speak out and name him as her rapist.

He is silencing and threatening a SURVIVOR with legal action. I have no fucking words. Scum of the earth.

Okay. If you need any advice, here it is:

I’ve had almost the exact same situation happen to me before. This idiot is talking out of his ass. Slander is spoken; that’s how little research he did. I don’t know what P-Safe is — if it’s an org that has anything to do with being safe I hope to god they ignore this freak.

At the most, he’s looking into a libel charge. HOWEVER: even then, he has no ground to stand on. If it’s this girl’s personal blog, she’s talking about her opinion of her experience, right? Her viewpoint.

Her viewpoint of what he did to her is an opinion expressed on a personal blog, and therefore it is not subject to libel laws. Opinions are not libelous in nature — they’re opinions. You can have opinions regarding things like that, even if they happen to be that something illegal took place.

Even if he were to somehow get around the fact that libel cannot be an opinion, truth is an absolute defense. If your friend has been seeing a therapist, doctor - any sort of professional - regarding this situation and that therapist believes her to be truthful, then they are suddenly a good resource should he somehow get this to court.

I don’t know if y’all are in college, but most colleges have some sort of free legal resource. Even without that, you could EASILY find a lawyer to do this pro bono or charge only if damages are awarded.

I hope your friend thought to keep records of what she posted, even though the post has been removed — it’ll be harder to prove any changes he might try to make to it. (You never know, but if no copies exist, then what’s done is done…though check Google - sometimes posts get archived.)

Hopefully, everyone who’s involved already knew this stuff and isn’t getting too perturbed, but it’s an emotionally devastating thing to have happen.

Please, anyone who sees this information — SIGNAL BOOST it. Even if you decide to remove the survivor’s story out of respect to the survivor and not wanting this to go super public — I’m unsure if this blowing up would be good or not — this is REALLY IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ANY SURVIVOR RUNNING A BLOG THAT DISCUSSES THEIR HARDSHIP.

So I got a new camera for the trips I’m planning on taking, and even though I ended up spending a bit more than I planned, I think it will be worth it. With Russia this summer and Greece next summer, I think I’ll be getting enough mileage out of it to justify spending so much, and I want to really be able to get great photos this time around. When I went to Europe I had two really mediocre point and shoots and I didn’t end up with too many good shots.

I really just can’t wait for this trip.

The thing is, when someone brings it to your attention that something you’re doing is problematic I think you have a responsibility to listen to them, regardless of their delivery. He is not an idiot, sexism and racism and ableism aren’t concepts that can’t be grasped by average people, it’s super simple stuff. No matter how the message is delivered, he got it. I especially hate it when people defend celebrities, who have so many resources and so much education available to them. Again, with people like Tyler I get so mad because he isn’t ignorant to this stuff. He is aware enough that he understands he has to explain why the things he’s saying are bad, he knows the consequences of what he’s saying, and he’s choosing to perpetuate these negative constructs and norms and ideas with no remorse. Saying “It’s just a joke, I wouldn’t actually do it” is an acknowledgement of the social repercussions of his words, and an absolute unwillingness to take responsibility for speaking them. He knows what he’s doing, and even if he didn’t, no one is owed pretty packaged dissent for racism, sexism, ableism, and everything else. No matter how they are given the message and mo matter how nice it is, they have been made aware. They can look for better packaged education on their own terms, which they should. In my opinion there is no defense for someone who is willfully, loudly, and proudly ignorant.
